Practical Truths About Lung Cancer
The lungs are one of the most important functional organs that God created man with. The organs that enable man to inhale fresh air and exhale unneeded air. They are located in the chest of humans bordering the heart. I know you know that the air we breath in and out represent life, therefore it is safe to say that anything that tampers with it is tampering with the very core of our lives; that is what Lung Cancer represents.
The human lungs are located on each side of the heart. Sometimes I asked how come all the vital organs of man all cluster around themselves; I guess it only shows how important they are to human existence. It is interesting to know that unlike the left lung which is smaller to accommodate for the size of the heart on the left side of the body, the right lung is slightly bigger; it has three primary parts, called lobes. The left lung on the other hand has two lobes; both lungs are padded by a delicate tiny lining called pleura. The pleura have two strata of tissues, one covers and protects the lungs and the other covers the inside wall of the chest.
Whenever you inhale fresh air, it goes through your nostrils or mouth down your windpipe (trachea). Inside the trachea you have two vital tubes called left and right bronchi, which transports air into your lungs. The bronchi extend into an incredible network of smaller tubes called bronchioles which it self extends into smaller tiny air sacs called alveoli. The alveoli’s are responsible for the separation of oxygen from the air we breathe into our lungs and pass it into the blood system for circulation to other parts of the body. They are also responsible for the removal of the waste product called carbon dioxide from the blood via the lungs and nostrils.
A vast majority of lung cancer starts in the lining of the bronchi. However, a few others have been reported to start in the trachea and the alveoli. Interestingly, lung cancer have been known to take many years to develop, by the time they become obvious can be life threatening. The reason been that by the time it is found out, the malignant cells may have spread to other parts of the body.
